Chairman of India Trees Foundation Shri Om Prakash Dhanuka welcome you !
Yes, welcome to
Local Environment Action Group,
a fellowship of tree lovers and volunteers of India Trees Foundation, a charitable trust, registered(No. 5809/08) in India, founded by the popular green activist Mr Ravi Menon of Kolkata, to spread awareness amongst the public and community the role of trees in our life and the need to protect and planting of trees for environmental restoration, practice of urban forestry and act as a primary communicator of the benefits of trees and forest on our planet earth.
In order to reach out to the public at the grassroot level, India Trees Foundation promote, support and encourage volunteers and tree lovers residing in each and every locality of the country to get together and form a LOCAL ENVIRONMENT ACTION GROUP, (LEAG), in their respective locality/neighbourhood and play an active role in spreading the awareness for protecting the trees and environment in their neighbourhood and act as the watchdogs and whistle blowers against wanton destruction of trees and/or actions leading to the pollution of the locality / neighbourhood environment.
Every year we involve school children to take-up planting of tree saplings in and around the city of Kolkata during the rainy season, and we invite volunteers and local residents to identify the vacant spots in their respective locality where we could carryout the planting of tree saplings by the local school students and resident volunteers.
We are also concerned about the huge garbage dumps seen in many parts of the country particularly along the important city thoroughfares and its impact on the health and wellbeing of the residents in its neighbourhood. We appeal to the local residents as well the students of the local schools to voice their protest to close down these open garbage dumps and instead go for closed bins kept nearer their buildings where the residents can deposit their solid wastes, to be collected by the municipality staff/contractors, with regularity, as also seggregation of waste at the household/source level.
Please comeout and raise your voice to stop this menace of open garbage dumps which not only pollute the air with stinking gas, but also invite the dogs, cows and other animals to litter the entire area while searching for their food in those heaps. Please contact our nearest LEAG members and together let us start a campagin in your area and help the authorities to wakeup.
We also appeal to everyone to support our efforts by donations and sponsorships to finance this venture!
Yes, please join and let us together do our mite to save this planet earth from the perils of climate change and global warming!
